WTA Madrid; ATP Estoril, Munich
So Madrid starts a bit earlier for the women as it expands into a two week
event, and being a WTA 1000 it means nothing else is going on for the WTA
this week. Hopefully the draw will appear soon, the official starting date
is April 29th. For the men we get two 250s crammed in this week, for them
Madrid starts just on Sunday, May 2nd. Everything is on clay, outdoors.
Spring is truly here.

WTA 1000. It's a big one. From the top 20 everyone except Kenin, Andreescu and Serena are showing up. It's a 64 players draw, no byes, no nothing. The 16 seeds are Barty, Osaka, Halep, Svitolina, Sabalenka, Pliskova, Bertens, Bencic, Kvitova, Muguruza, Brady, Azarenka, Mertens, Swiatek, Konta and Sakkari. Last direct MD entry is Ostapenko (#54). Yep, this one is a tough tournament. Basically everyone else is good/known enough to qualify for the "others" list, so I'm gonna prune it down to zero! Easier to just check the draw. No byes means there are already some juicy 1st rounders. Here is the draw (projected R16):

ATP 250. So, usual stuff, 28 players in the draw, which means
The Shap, Garin, Humbert and Nishikori have byes. The other four
seeds are Bublik, Cilic, ARV and ADF. And here are some of the

Gasquet.

Same deal as before, ATP 250, 28 players. The four seeds with byes are
Zverev, Ruud, Karatsev and Krajinovic.
Basilashvili, Lajovic, Struff and Millman complete the seed
list. Who else is in Munich? Plenty of Germans as it turns out.
Marterer, Hanfmann, Koepfer, Kohlschreiber and maybe some will creep
from qualies too. Onto non-Germans: 4U, Korda, Cuevas v Sandgren.
