With the cancellation of the fall Asian tournaments for both the WTA and the ATP, Indian Wells has taken on an even greater importance than usual. Ironically, the tournament itself was postponed from its normal time slot in March because of the Covid pandemic, and was not held in 2020. “The Stadium 1 is the second largest in the world, with more than 16,000 seats and 44 suites.” (ATP website)

Federer and Djokovic are tied for the most titles at 5 each.
Sadly, the tournament reflects the changing times in tennis, with both Nadal and Federer out with injuries and Djokovic choosing not to take part. Defending champ Dominic Thiem is also out, because of a wrist injury.
