There was much discussion about the slow and gritty courts at Indian Wells. Rublev called the courts “super, super, super slow.” In an on-court interview Medvedev said: “The court is slow, I mean it cannot get any slower, it’s like if it gets any more slower we’d be staying inside the court and playing mini tennis.” Perhaps those conditions contributed to the upsets of players who prefer faster
courts, but of course we can’t know for certain.Who is left standing and who told us "Bye"?......
At least for now the top 10 seeds on the men’s side have fared better than the women. Four are out – Rublev, Berrettini, Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov.
Round of 16
All the men are playing on Wednesday.
Daniil Medvedev(1) vs Grigor Dimitrov(23)
Casper Ruud(6) vs Diego Schwartzman(11)
Hubert Hurkacz(8) vs Aslan Karatsev(19)
Stefanos Tsitsipas(2) vs Alex de Minaur(22)
Alexander Zverev(3) vs Gael Monfils(14)
Jannik Sinner(10) vs Taylor Fritz(31)
Karen Khachanov(24) vs Nikoloz Basilashvili(29)
Notable Match
Fans were excited to see how Andy Murray would fare against Sascha Zverev. Although Andy did not prevail he played well over all (even if he did not seem to think so). Best of all he moved well, so we can hope that his resurfaced hip will not be a problem in upcoming matches.
Quarter finals:
Angelique Kerber(10) vs Paula Badosa(21)
Ons Jabeur(12) vs Anett Kontaveit(18)
Jessica Pegula(19) vs Victoria Azarenka(27)
Jelena Ostapenko(24) vs Shelby Rogers(unseeded)
Notable Results:
Other notable results included the defending champ, Bianca Andreescu, losing to Anett Kontaveit in the third round, USO champ Emma Raducanu losing to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round, and USO finalist Leylah Fernandez being beaten by Shelby Rogers in the fourth.

There were a LOT of upsets on the women’s side. In fact 9 of the top 10 seeds are out – Pliskova, Swiatek, Krejcikova, Svitolina, Muguruza, Sakkari, Kvitova, Bencic (withdrew), and Pavlyuchenkova. Only the No.10 seed, Kerber, made it to the quarter finals.
