US Open 2021

US Open - ATP / WTA
Billie Jean King National Tennis Center
Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Flushing, New York
August 30 – September 12, 2021

Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Flushing, Queens, New York

"There is something vibrant and electrifying about the US Open. Wimbledon is renowned for its heritage, for being the graceful Grand Slam steeped in tradition, with players wearing crisp white outfits while the crowds sip champagne and dip a strawberry into fresh cream.Just a month later the bright lights, hustle and bustle of the US Open bursts into life in New York.

At Wimbledon, fans will cheer and applaud politely at the end of an epic rally. In New York, the boisterous crowds whoop and holler, singing along to a series of hits at changeovers which behavior is amplified during the night sessions.

Itis known that US Open fans are not afraid to engage in conversation with players, to offer advice. It’s really on the outside courts when you experience the carnival atmosphere. It’s a bit chaotic but so much fun." A fitting description.

🎵🎵 "Start spreading the news / I'm leaving today / I want to be a part of it / New York, New York"🎵🎵

The Tourney

There is nothing like being at the US Open at night!!

Defending ATP champ: Dominic Thiem

Defending WTA champ: Naomi Osaka

The USO, first played in August 1881, is the third oldest tennis tournament. Only Wimbledon, which began in 1877, and the Canadian Open which began in July 1881, thus beating it by a month, are older.

After a reduced format last year, all the events will be held this season, including mixed doubles and the boys’ and girls’ events, which were cancelled in 2020.

The USO has the richest purse of all the Slams, with total prize money of $57.5 million. However, the prize money was redistributed to allow more $ for the lower rounds, with less for the winner and runner up.

COVID 19 Mandates: "Any U.S. Open attendee, 12 years and older, with tickets to Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium, the Grandstand, or the grounds of the U.S. Open, will be required to provide proof of at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine," the USTA said in a written statement. Wearing masks are not mandated.  Here is a link to the USO Covid news.
