O Canada - the Road to the USO

National Bank Open, Toronto, Canada, ATP 1000

National Bank Open, Montreal, Canada, WTA 1000

Draws: Singles 48, doubles 28

Defending Champs: ATP – Rafa Nadal (2019 and 2018) Rafa has won the title five times, beginning in 2005.

WTA - Bianca Andreescu (2019)

The Canadian Open has had many different names over the years because of changing sponsorships and this year we need to become accustomed to yet another title. The tournament began in 1881 for the men and 1892 for the women, making it the oldest tourney after Wimbledon.

The tournament is unusual in that the men and the women alternate annually between Toronto and Montreal. Neither city has the facilities to host the entire tourney, and given the fierce rivalry between the two cities perhaps this solution also keeps the peace within the Canadian tennis community.
