ATP- Hamburg European Open, Hamburg, Germany
New Concert Hall, Hamburg (I think we have seen this before) |
2020 champ: Rublev (from Sept.)
Seeds: Tsitsipas, Carreno Busta, Basilashvili, Ramos-Vinolas, Lajovic, Krajinovic, Struff, Paire.
Other notables: F. Lopez, Pouille, Bedene
Wildcards went to Tsitsipas, Germans Kohlschreiber and Altmaier and 21-year-old Nicola Kuhn, who represented Germany from 2014-16 before switching his allegiance to Spain.
This is the oldest tennis tournament in Germany, debuting in 1892 as the “International German Open.” Federer has won the most titles in the Open Era with four.
ATP - Hall of Fame Open, Newport, RI, USA
Seeds: Bublik, Querrey, Nishioka, Pospisil, Anderson, Sandgren, Johnson, Thompson.
Wildcards: Anderson, Sock and 42-year-old Karlovic, who won the title in 2016.
This is such a historic tournament, with the first U.S. National Lawn Tennis Championships (which much later became the US Open) contested in 1881 at the Newport Casino. Casino is not a reference to gambling, but is derived from the Italian word, la casina or “little house.”
Bastad Open, Sweden |
Draw: singles 28, doubles 16
2019 champ: Nicolas Jarry
Seeds: Ruud, Garin, Fognini, Millman, Gasquet, Musetti, Vesely, Ruusuvuori.
Other notables include Carballes Baena and Cecchinato.
Wildcards: The Swede Elias Ymer and 18-year-old Dane Holger Rune.
With the exception of 2020 when the tourney was cancelled because of the Covid pandemic, the tournament has been played every year since 1948.
WTA - Hungarian Grand Prix Budapest, Hungary
Széchenyi Chain Bridge |
Draw: singles 32, doubles 16
2013 Champion: Simona Halep (it appears that this time slot was filled by the Bucharest Open 2014-2019)
Seeds: Putintseva, Collins, Siegemund, Tig, Pera, Begu, Bogdan, Sasnovich.
The three wildcards went to Hungarian players outside the top 200.
WTA- Livesport Prague Open, Prague, Czech Republic
Prague Castle |
Draw: singles 32, doubles 16
2020 Champ: Simona Halep (August)
Seeds: Kvitova, Krejcikova, Vondrousova, Bouzkova, Siniakova, Hsieh, Stojanovic, Martincova.
Other notables: Barthel, Ruse, X. Wang
Wildcards: Stosur, Kuzmova, Havlickova
WTA - Ladies Open Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland
Lausanne tennis venue |
Draw: singles 32, doubles 16
2019 champ: Fiona Ferro
Seeds: Zidansek, Ferro, Teichmann, Giorgi, Garcia, Rus, Paoloni, Blinkova

The tournament moved from Gstaad to Lausanne in 2019 and, like so many tourneys, was not held in 2020
Thank you Shirley for all your input. It certainly helps speed up the process.
