Post-French Open Impressionism 2021 Grass Open For Business

ATP Halle, Germany + London, UK

WTA Berlin, Germany + Birmingham, UK

Those players who aren’t keen on clay, and getting their socks dirty, will be excited about going to the cool, green grass of this week’s tournaments. Although, what about grass stains? In any case, this week’s tourneys will provide a welcome change and should bring us many entertaining matches.

Halle ATP 500, Germany

“Noventi Open”

5 Towers Halle, Germany

June 14-20-2021

Draw: 32 singles, 24 doubles

Top players include: Medvedev, Tsitsipas*, Zverev, Rublev, Federer, Bautista Agut. Goffin and Monfils received a WC. Other notables include: Auger-Aliassime, Struff, Humbert, Hurkacz.

Local fans will look forward to seeing more than a couple German players in addition to Zverev and Struff, WCs went to Kohlschreiber and Altmaier, and participating is Dominik Koepfer, (aka Resting Pissy Face).

All in all a Hefty Halle of Get Grass Going Field of Dreams!

*Stefanos in with second-to-last minute WC entry before SF at Roland Garros is in Final v. Djokovic Sunday, June 12. So, is he Verrückt Greek or simply a Selbstvertrauen Jung Greek?

Roger won his 10th Halle title in 2019.

Queen’s Club ATP 500, London, England

“cinch Championships”

Queen's Club UK 1886-1986 - this view somewhere in between

June 14-20-2021

Draw: 32 singles, 24 doubles

Top players include: Berrettini, Shapovalov, Sinner, de Minaur, Karatsev, Evans, Sonego, Fognini. And a couple of Americans are in the draw: Tiafoe, Opelka.

Great news is Andy Murray received a WC, he's won this tourney 5 times.

Feli Lopez won both the singles and the doubles (with Andy Murray) in 2019, the last time the tournament was held. Quite a feat for a 37-year-old! With Wawrinka’s withdrawal, Lopez is in the main draw this year. Can he find magic at Queen’s again?

Queen’s has had many sponsors over the years, so just what is “cinch”? It is a company operating in the UK and continental Europe that sells used cars online.

(I’m telling everyone “cinch” WAS an all-purpose, Windex-like spray cleaner, I still have a 10-yo refill  jug, Refuse to throw it away since it was supposedly a “Wonder Cleaner” but I can't see through opaque orange jug, wondering if like Wine, it’s turned to Vinegar-bad + chemicalized-bad. Can’t  remember what color it should be. Like blood, not really red until it’s oxygenated by air when drawn or ‘bright bloody red’ when it's our own, color may be a factor.)

German Open WTA 500, Berlin

“Bett1 Open”

New Bett1 Open, Berlin, Germany (sponsor Tennis Bet New Thing!)

June 14-20-2021

Draw: 32 singles, 16 doubles

This tourney last took place in 2008, so it is great to have it back.

Top seeds include: Sabalenka, Svitolina, Andreescu, Ka. Pliskova, Bencic, Azarenka, Muguruza, Muchova. Unfortunately, recent W/D is Iga Świątek (not pronounced as it appears, phonetically, in English from Polish). 🙄

Fans will be pleased to see Angelique Kerber in the draw. Kerber, the 2018 Wimby champ, says she loves grass-court tennis. German players, Petkovic, Siegemund, received Wildcards. Other notable players include Keys, Pegula, Anisimova, Martic.
