Final Warm-up for Wimbledon 2021

 ATP 250, Mallorca, Spain
ATP 250,  WTA 500, Eastbourne, England
WTA 250, Bad Homburg, Germany

Yeah!  I did a map.  Just FYI the blue pin on the map denotes joint WTA/ATP event.

We continue with the buildup to Wimbledon with four grass tournaments in the coming week.

Mallorca Championships ATP 250, Spain

Calla D'Or - I really want to go - back!
June 20-26

Draw: 28 singles, 16 doubles

There is a strong field for the week before a major. The three top seeds received wildcards: Medvedev, Thiem and Bautista Agut. They must be very anxious for more match play before Wimbledon. Other top players include Carreno Busta, Ruud, Khachanov, Humbert and Lajovic.

Other notables include Harris, Struff, Querrey and F. Lopez.

In an interesting twist, Djokovic took a wildcard for doubles, teaming up with Spanish player, Carlos Gomez-Herrera.

This new tournament was supposed to have begun last year, but was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Wimbledon experts advised the tournament on creating grass courts, so that the conditions could match those at the All England Club as much as possible.

The tournament director is Toni Nadal.

Bad Homburg Open WTA 250, Germany

The Old City, Bad Homburg

I forgot about the thread as I soaked up info on this unique German City. It is about 25 miles north of Frankfurt and really worth your time to see all the images about the historic site. The word Bad is Bath indicating that the town is known best for its medically used mineral waters and spa, and for its casino. Presently, Bad Homburg is one of the wealthiest towns in Germany (with the Hochtaunuskreis and the Landkreis Starnberg regularly competing for the title of the wealthiest district in Germany). The site has a very special history. In 1876 the first tennis court on the European Continent was created in Bad Homburg’s Kurpark (spa spark.) I wanna go!!

The Tournament: Another new tournament, this tourney was also scheduled for a 2020 launch, but was postponed because of the pandemic. Like Mallorca, Bad Homburg will feature comparable conditions to Wimbledon, having received the expertise of the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

The tournament and fans had some bad news. Halep, the top seed, had to withdraw because of her calf injury.

Top players include Kvitova, Azarenka, Pegula, Kerber, Podoroska, Cirstea, Sorribes Tormo and Siegemund.

Other notables include Petkovic, Tauson and Rus.

Angelique Kerber, who is playing in the tourney, is the tournament ambassador. Apparently she also contributed towards the tourney’s development.
