Eight months into 2022 and we can safely say tennis is definitely back and mostly normal. This hardcourt North American/Canadian swing is of course the build up to the last major grand slam of the year, the US Open, which starts on August 29, 2022.
On the ATP side of things there is still speculation about the big three whose participation is somewhat limited with Roger Federer not ready to return, Rafa Nadal still with question mark re his injuries as well as his treatment for the Mulller-Weiss disease, and Novak Djokovic still unwilling to get vaccinated to be allowed in the United States and Canada. In the meantime Alcaraz, Medvedev, Rublev, Sinner, Ruud, Auger-Aliassime are waiting (or may be not) to continue to put their mark on the tennis world.
For the WTA anticipation is high for Iga Swiatek's continued dominance, continued ascendence of Ons Jabeur, Coco Gauff, Marie Bouzkova, Elena Rybakina, Paula Badosa, Anna Kontaveit, Jessica Pegula, and a resurgence from Amanda Anisimova, Bianca Andreescu, Simona Halep, Barbara Krejcikova, Caroline Garcia, Naomi Osaka, Daria Kasatkina and Aryna Sabalenka. Of course we have the return of the "oldies" to the tourney - Serena Williams, Venus Williams (please just play doubles), Sloane Stephens, Victoria Azarenka, Maddie Keys and Taylor Townsend....Ah did I leave out anyone who should have been mentioned?
Let's see what we got cooking for this coming week....
