Out of Europe

WTA Doha; ATP Dubai, Santiago; ATP+WTA Acapulco

The women go to a big one in Doha, the men go to Dubai and Santiago and then they all meet in Acapulco. Europe gets the shaft this week.

Qatar Total Open, Doha

So there is something old and not skyscraper in Doha!
Premier 5 (900 points) on HC. They have a Sunday start, as a 58 players draw. Halep withdrew after her Dubai exploits so Sabalenka got bumped up to having a bye as the 9th seed and Vekic got to be seeded 17th. The other seven seeds with byes are almost all top 10 (Oh, Petra!): Barty, Pliskova, Bencic, Svitolina, Kenin, Bertens, Kvitova. And the other seven seeds are Martic, Muguruza, Vondrousova, Riske, Rybakina, Sakkari, Mertens. The other notable absences from the top twenty: Andreescu, Serena, Osaka, Konta, Kerber. Who else is there? Well, basically all of them: last direct acceptance to MD was Swiatek as #56. Yeah, tough, tough draw.
Aryna Sabalenka - That bird should fly away! Right now!

Abierto Mexicano TELCEL presentado por HSBC, Acapulco

Not the best image, but it has boats in it!
This one is a mixed affair: ATP 500 and WTA International (280 points) on HC.

The men's draw is pretty tough, with Nadal at the top. No byes in these, so Zverev, Wawrinka, FAA, Isner, Kyrgios, Dimitrov, Lajovic all gotta play from the start. Other notable names: De Minaur, The Tiaf, Johnson, Albot, Norrie, Fritz, Edmund.
A drunken Mexican. Oops, sorry, no, it's Rafael Nadal and his third pear (I'm clueless on that trophy's story)

The women's draw is way weaker (after all it's the lowest WTA tier). Top seed Stephens (#35) and last seed Hibino (#75). The other six seeds are Wang (Y), Bouzkova, Davis, Venus, Zhu, Watson. Notables (for a weak definition of that): AKS, Vandeweghe, Rogers, Potapova, Boulter, SST.
Heather Watson in a tender moment. Hev gets back into top 50! Hooray!

Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

That's an abra. In Dubai. Now you know.
Another ATP 500 on HC. Draw is very very marginally stronger than Acapulco. Eight seeds with no byes: Djokovic, The Tsi, Monfils, Fognini, RBA, Rublev, The Khach and Paire. Other significant names: Kohlschreiber, Gasquet, Cilic, Herbert, Evans, Basilashvili, Hurkacz, PCB.
How is this fair? One gets a pear and one gets a whole boat? Yeah, Novak Djokovic will win every match this year.

Chile Dove Men+Care Open, Santiago

Santiago skyline. No boats available.
The Golden Swing is at its end. ATP 250 on clay. Santiago hosted ATP tournaments before but in an on and off way. Now it's on again. Being in a week with two ATP 500s it was clear this draw will suffer. Top seed is homeboy Garin (#25), last seed is Brazilian Monteiro (#88). Top 4 seeds have byes: Ruud, ARV, Cuevas. The rest don't: Londero, Dellien, Delbonis. Notables? I almost wanted to say none, but how can I? I mean: Thiago Seyboth Wild and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina are here!
Thiago Seyboth Wild - that's enough!

Done.
