The Grand Finale of the Grand Slams

Some Trivia:
A dozen young vocalists between the ages of 10 and 14 are set to showcase their skills and sing patriotic songs at the 2019 US Open. The youngest in the group include two 10-year-old up-and-coming Broadway performers, who will both perform "America the Beautiful" late in the second week. Skye Turner, of Dallas, who was recently cast as young Tina Turner in the upcoming new musical “TINA,” will sing prior to the women's semifinals on Sept. 5, while Winter Donnelly, of New York, who currently performs in Disney’s hit musical “Frozen,” will perform at the men’s semifinals on Sept. 6. What a great opportunity - Good Luck Youngsters...
Iconic New York

US OPEN, Flushing Meadows, New York

Where does the time go? Kids are back in school, my Hallmark store has christmas stuff on display (there oughta be a law 😑) and the fourth and final of the Grand Slams for 2019 is here. The US Open held in frenetic, pulsing New York, the city that never sleeps. The lights! The taxis! The millions of people rushing along the sidewalks with their elbows out!
Some tips to navigate the city: (shared by a friend with ghoulish sense of humour)

There is no such thing as jaywalking, instead cross the street when traffic allows (but be mindful that not all taxis agree)
It’s OK to show the cars who's boss - Additionally, if a cab almost hits you, you hit it right back—or at least yell, “Hey, I’m walking here!”
Headphones are a requirement - You never need to take off your headphones, at least take one off to hear the cabbie’s explanation for why he’s going through Times Square at rush hour. (LOL)
Eating pizza doesn’t require a table - The best way to eat a slice of pizza is while standing on the street. (Just make sure you have enough napkins as the grease runs down to your elbow!)
Swiping a Metrocard is an art form best practiced at any time other than rush hour. Well yeah otherwise prepare to be mowed down or cussed out....
Empty subway cars are never a good thing - Be very, very suspicious of a subway car with no one in it.
“Showtime” isn't entertaining—it's dangerous - If you hear the phrase, “It’s SHOWTIME!” while you’re on the subway, watch your head. Someone’s foot may come swinging over it. (Oh joy)
There is no “north” or “south” - If you’re getting directions, “uptown” means north and “downtown” means south

As Beachie said storylines have already been written but who knows where the various stories will take us and what will be their endings? A good story has twists and turns and meanders (like some of our convosπŸ˜‰). Hope everyone gets the ending or endings they want.....
WTA - The Ladies
Given that every tourney this year, including slams, had a different champion will this hold for USO?  We have a strong field with past and current GS champions and all 10 seeds.

Storylines
Serena/Pova 1R match - yeah clocks have been set, popcorn bought, beers/wine are cold.
Will Osaka do a repeat?  Will Halep give us back to back slam wins? Will Andreescu win her first slam? Will Gauff go deep? Will the teens dominate or will the twenty somethings say - hey not so fast? Will Kerber make a comeback here?  Will we have a qualifier breakthrough?

Am keeping my eye on some talented young uns like Vondrousova, Kenin, Yastremska, Swiatek, and Bouzkova (Bazookova or aka Miss Cutie)
Top seeds in order are Osaka, Barty, Ka Pliskova, Halep, Svitolina, Kvitova, Bertens, Williams-Ohanian, Sabalenka, Keys

New York from on up high

    ATP - Gents
    Storylines?
We already know where our favs fall re the draw.  A repeat for Novak? The continued dominance of the top 3?  Will Grandpa go walkabout? Will the conditions be just right for Rafa? (tongue in cheek)  Is this the slam of the Next Gens? Which Nick will show up - the freakishly talented tennis player or the middle schooler disrupting the class for attention?  FAA or Shapovalov?- tough 1R matchup.  How consistent is Daniil Medvedev and how deep will he go?  And of course will A. Zverev and Tsitsipas come out of their slump? Will we have a qualifier breakthrough?

Missing in action will be del Potro and Anderson the latter losing quite a few points.
    • Top seeds in order are: Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Thiem, Medvedev, Zverev, Nishikori, Tsitsipas, Khachanov, Bautista Agut.
