In 2019, Miami ranked seventh in the United States and 31st among global cities in business activity, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience, and political engagement. According to a 2018 study of 77 world cities, the city was ranked as the third-richest in the world and the second-richest in the United States in purchasing power. Miami is one of the largest majority-minority cities in the United States and the fourth largest majority Hispanic city in the United States, with 70.2% of its population being Hispanic in 2020.
Known for its influx of immigrants from Cuba, other South American countries and recently Europe there are ethnic conclaves kown as LIttle Havana, LIttle Haiti and Little Moscow. The latter is located on a small strip of land near Miami: Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. The most recent data from the Census' American Community Survey that tracked population from 2015 to 2019 shows that there are 1,079 Russian-born residents living there — more than any country in Europe or Asia. Russian money has brought a real-estate boom to the region over the years, but that is in jeopardy due to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and subsequent sanctions imposed on Russian oligarchs.

Hard Rock Stadium where the Miami Tennis Open takes place is also home to the Miami Dolphins football team, Miami Hurricanes football team, Marlins Baseball Team and starting this year will be host to the Formula 1 race event which would be raced at the Miami International Autodrome which goes around the Stadium.

Founded in 1985.The tournament is the second part of the “Sunshine Double” along with Indian Wells. Novak Djokovic has won the “Sunshine Double” (both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season) an amazing four times (2011, 2014-2016). On the women’s side the most recent player to accomplish it was Victoria Azarenka, in 2016.
Like IW, Miami is a 12-day tournament, and has a 96-player draw in a 128-player grid. To make this unusual format work the 32 seeds all have a first round bye.
James Blake is the Tournament Director. Overall 71 of the top 75 ranked women and 65 of the top 75 ranked men are entered to compete in Miami.

I always think of 'Miami Vice' when I do think of Miami. These two dudes knew cool. 35 years ago 'Miami Vice' changed everything you know or thought you knew about cop shows - and fashion. The impact of the show was enormous. Not only did it influence music and fashion but had major impact on the city itself. It is considered today amongst the most influential television series ever made. What Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs wore became fashion especially the pastel T-shirt and linen suit look. Tourism in the city received a tangible boost as a result of the series' popularity, and the renovation work carried out on dilapidated buildings by the production team as part of filming led to something of a renaissance in the South Beach area - other buildings and hotels were restored contributing to the revitalization of the area in the 1990s and the influx of celebrities and luxury hotels and clubs in the 2000s.
