WTA Strasbourg; ATP Hamburg
Week before Roland Garros! In September! Yeah... the shit... Anyway, we have
a Mickey Mouse tournament for the women and a stronger one for the men; but both were moved from their normal calendar slots.
Both on clay (naturally), and both have pretty impressive draws, because some
folks hate Rome but had to get some clay matches before the French Open
(Frenchies hate it when you call it that... they go "Non, zees iz no FO, zees
is Rrrrroland Garrrrros!").
Internationaux de Strasbourg
Strasbourg - seat of the European Parliament |
WTA International (280 points) on clay. 30 players draw with top two seeds
having a 1st round bye. Pliskova was top seed but she's deep in Rome.
So she is out. This means draw was reshuffled,
Svitolina and Bertens got those byes. The other
five seeds are Sabalenka, Rybakina, Anisimova, Alexandrova, Stephens.
So who else is there?
Ostapenko v Davis, Pavlyuchenkova v AVU, Hercog v Cornet, Diyas v
Strycova. Pretty good stuff from the start!
Elina Svitolina - with a vase and a mask :( |
Hamburg European Open
Hamburg - that is pretty! |
ATP 500 on clay. 32 players in the draw. No byes. Seeds are
Medvedev, The Tsi, Monfils, RBA, Rublev, Fognini, Schwartzman, The Khach. That is f-ing strong! Also in here Ruud (will he show up?)
v Paire, Kohlschreiber, Basilashvili, Anderson, FAA, ARV, Nishikori, Fritz,
Struff, Evans. I mean this is great, right?
Andrey Rublev - 3rd trophy of the year! |
And the unfortunate coda again:
- Daily youtube update with the scientific side of the fight against covid-19 , explained in pretty intelligible terms. (That links to a playlist, just click on the freshest clip. Or you know... get really into it from the beginning.)
