WTA Lexington and Prague
Last week in Palermo there were no hitches. Hooray! This week there are two!
Yes! TWO! tournaments. Still just the WTA is in action. The guys have no
balls.
Girls are basically split between Europe and US and there are pretty strong
signs that this split reflects their intentions regarding the two GSs that we
will hopefully get this year: RG and USO.
The Top Seed Open presented by Bluegrass Orthopaedics, Lexington
Lexington - Horse Capital of the World. Who am I to disagree? |
WTA International on HC. This is the start of the USO preparation. Fingers
crossed it won't be in vain. Draw is, naturally, heavy on US players (13 in MD
and maybe more after qualification). We get 8 seeds with no byes. Here they
are (#9 to #39):
Serena, Sabalenka, Konta, Anisimova, Putintseva, Linette, Stephens and
Jabeur. Venus v Azarenka is really now a R1 match in a WTA
International? Yes, yes it is. Who else is in?
Watson, Davis, Bouzkova, Bellis, Gauff. Not shabby at all!
Prague Open
Prague - Is this the Beer Capital of the World? Hmm... maybe after Plzen? |
WTA International on clay. This is the start of the RG preparation. Yes, it's
that kind of a year! Keeping the fingers crossed. Toes too. As you would
expect, given the shit we're in, just one North American shows up:
Bouchard. Draw has 8 seeds with no byes (#2 to #40):
Halep, Martic, Mertens, Yastremska, Alexandrova, Pavlyuchenkova,
Strycova
and Kudermetova. Who else is in Prague? Surprisingly, not the best
Czechs but the Romanian horde. Let's start with the home girls:
Siniakova, Krejcikova, The Lesser Pliskova, Fruhvirtova. Now the horde:
Țig, Begu, Bogdan and maybe some qualifiers. What's left? An assortment
of more Europeans:
Kasatkina, Hercog, Sevastova, Giorgi, Ferro, Siegemund. Good stuff.
And the unfortunate coda again:
- Daily youtube update with the scientific side of the fight against covid-19 , explained in pretty intelligible terms. (That links to a playlist, just click on the freshest clip. Or you know... get really into it from the beginning.)
